This past week we have been enjoying the fabulous fun of the Dixon County Fair!!! It has been a staple of my life since birth..."There is no such thing as Fair except the Dixon County Fair" was the motto I grew up on! It's exceptionally cool that the fair is held in Concord, just a mere 5.1 miles from our home (seeing how most cool things are 30+ miles!). The fair begins on Saturday and runs through Wednesday, but Monday-Wednesday is the good stuff. This year Gil's parents joined us on Monday evening and despite the rain showers and threats of storms we went and enjoyed the free bar-b-q, walked the exhibit hall, checked out the petting zoo and animals, and watched a little team penning. Tuesday morning, of course, was the market beef calf show. We also got a little horse show in and lunch at the Teen Leaders food stand. We skipped the truck pull that night since Gil was exhausted from working 2 days in a row at Briar Cliff. But we were back again on Wednesday night for the demolition derby (the most popular attraction!). It was also fun that cousin Ashtyn and Aunts Katie and Alissa got to be there for some of it. Ashtyn's enthusiasm for the animals was SO CUTE! We even got to see some of my cousins and their kids. There really is no such thing as fair except the Dixon County Fair!
Mom pulled Jude and Ashtyn in her little wagon. A moment she's been waiting her whole life for!!!
At the horse show.
We also have recently made two more trips to the vet with Babbs. She got her "lump" sliced and drained and is now living in the house with us for a while to prevent infection. We also give her antibiotics and heat pack it twice a day. House training is going exponentially better now that she is a little older. Now instead of watching for her to pee on the carpet I have to watch Jude so he doesn't eat dog food or her dog bone...Really?!? This is a shot of her side where the "operation" took place. Oh and a little tip from the vet that really works, if you have to give your pet an antibiotic tablet, stick it in a marshmallow, it really works!
I totally miss the Dixon County Fair! I was always so jealous that you guys and the Bocks got to practically live at the fair. We would only go for arm band night, demo derby, and baton twirling. Is Jude too little for arm band night on the midway? Hope Babs is feeling better!
ReplyDeleteAlaina, I was talking to Tiff at the Derby and they don't even do armband night anymore, can you believe it?!?!? Such a tragedy! Jude is too little, but I did go on two rides with him:) And oh, the baton twirling days!
